Flying

Does the license the only required document when working abroad?

In order to be able to work in a country where you are not resident, you need to hold the country’s license or a license validation and a work visa or a passport from the country.

Is it easier to work in some countries than others?

Countries where no training units exist validate ICAO licenses. For Canadians, it is easier to find work in the Commonwealth member states (see www.thecommonwealth.org for the complete list)

If I hold a private license from a ICAO member state, what is the procedure to obtain all rights and privileges allowing me to fly in Canada?

There are 3 ways to proceed:

  1. Obtain a license validation (cost of $45) and visit Transport Canada’s office.
  2. Obtain a full Canadian license by getting your Canadian medical certificate and going through a regulations exam and a license request (cost of $45); or
  3. Obtain a 3 months temporary validation allowing you to add a rating to your license such as night flying, multi engine or instrument flying.

Training

What is the minimum level of studies to register at Cargair ?

In order to apply for our program, the candidate is required to hold a high school diploma

What are the conditions of admission at Cargair ?

Conditions depend on the training program you choose.

How many sessions by year are there and when do they start ?

For the standard training, there are no sessions, classes are continuously given during the year. Contact us to know the date of the next course module. For the integrated training and attestation of college studies (AEC), there are 2 sessions per year, one in the spring and the other in the fall. Contact us to know the exact dates.

If I become instructor, will Cargair hire me ?

Our instructor rating graduates placement at Cargair is about 100%.

After obtaining my commercial pilot license with Multi and IFR ratings, can I find work?

It is fairly difficult to find a job as a commercial pilot just after getting your license due to lack of experience, becoming instructor allows graduates to acquire the flight experience required to qualify for a professional pilot in an airline company. Cargair offers grants for the instructor training to its graduates. Ask us for the information.

What are the differences between training at Cargair Saint-Hubert, Mirabel or Trois-Rivières?

Even though all three schools offer superior quality instruction the airline pilot integrated ATP(A) program and the attestation of collegial studies (AEC) are only offered in Saint-Hubert and Trois-Rivières. The airport of Saint-Hubert is a controlled airport on the south shore of Montreal, public transport is available. Mirabel Airport is not controlled and located on the north shore of Montreal where driving there is required. Trois-Rivières airport doesn’t have a control tower but is close to public transportation.

Are there financing options if I elect to pursue my professional training at Cargair?

For all programs, it is possible to subscribe to a loan with some banking institutions. Note that you have to be resident or Canadian Citizen. It is also possible to get a loan with the financial aid for studies for the collegial studies program only.

Can the training or license I obtained in one of the ICAO member country be used in order to get my Canadian License?

All the experience acquired in one of the 190 ICAO members states is recognized by Canada. You can find the list of member stats at www.icao.int.

Does Cargair offer the airline pilot license ab-initio?

Absolutely! Cargair offers the integrated ATP(A) program in which students study an airline pilot license leading up to the the airline pilot written exams (designated SARON and SAMRA); the candidate has then 5 years to acquire 1500 flight hours in order to obtain the airline pilot license.

Can I pursue my training if I have a recreational pilot permit?

Yes. The experience acquired in the past will be credited in the pre-requisites for the private pilot license.

What are the differences between the recreational pilot permit and the private pilot license?

The recreational pilot permit is a Canadian flight permit not recognized on the international scene which allows the pilot to take one passenger at most. This permit doesn’t allow any night flight nor any additional ratings.

Student life

Is it easy to find housing near Cargair campus?

With our help, a large portion of our students rent a room in spacious and well-equipped residences located not far from our Saint-Hubert Campus. We also offer options in Trois-Rivières. The monthly cost ranges from $550 to $750. At the student discretion, it is always possible to find an apartment in which case cost ranges from $850 to $1050 per month depending on number of rooms and furnishing options.
